"My husband and I were having issues in our marriage and so many problems were rooted in cultural expectations. With Jas’s help we were able to explore how culture impacts our relationship and what things were getting in the way of a healthy relationship. Because Jas is South Asian, we did not have to explain to her cultural norms such as living in an extended family, the role of a daughter-in-law and how to communicate with in-laws. Both my husband and I have learned how to communicate effectively and take time to understand to the situation before reacting."

For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about helping people. As the eldest daughter of immigrant parents, I had to navigate between cultural expectations and being true to my authentic self. Through my lived experiences, I have been humbled by failure and learned how to move forward in life without guilt.
My own life experiences have drawn me to exploring the characteristics that lead to resiliency. I truly believe each and every person has the potential to succeed, but I also understand that everyone has different obstacles to overcome before they can achieve their goals.
I am a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Workers and Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have my Masters in Social Work from the University of Victoria. From the Justice Institute of BC, I obtained my Certificate in Advanced Facilitation & Consultation. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. I specialize in group training in the areas of Anti-Racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Change Management and Conflict Resolution.
Since 2006 I have been working with individuals who struggle with trauma, complex life transitions, addictions, relationship issues, and mental health concerns. I utilize an anti-oppressive framework with an emphasis on intersectionality and existentialism. I have over a decade of experience facilitating psycho-educational programs in the areas of intimate partner violence, substance use and violence prevention. As a counsellor in Abbotsford, I provide in person and virtual services.
Clinical services provided by a registered clinical social worker can be claimed as a medical expense on income tax. In addition, the Canada Revenue Agency recognizes Social Work as a health profession. Therefore, all clinical services provided by a RSW are GST exempt.

"I started seeing Jas three months ago. I feel like I am talking to a friend rather than a Counsellor. Jas has helped me learn so much about myself and why I am not to blame for the things that have happened in my life. For years I thought I was responsible for the abuse because I was not a good wife. It took me a long time to reach out to someone, but I am glad I did."
"Jas Hundal is intensely curious and intelligent. She is a keen listener and has a natural knack for responding with empathy and insightfulness. A brilliant woman."
